Truck route maps and regulations

Rules, maps and clearances for trucks and commercial vehicles travelling through Wrenford.

If you drive a truck or commercial vehicle weighing more than 11,800 kilograms, you must use the City's designated truck routes. These routes connect the industrial areas, the downtown core, and Highway 401, while keeping heavy traffic away from residential neighbourhoods. Following these routes helps protect local roads, reduces noise, and keeps all roads safer for everyone.

You can view or print the official map showing all designated truck routes and restricted zones. The map covers the full city, including the downtown grid and the concession-line roads at the edges.

Vertical clearances

Check bridge heights before routing tall loads. Heights are approximate, so please double-check your vehicle dimensions. Unexpectedly tall vehicles can damage bridges and block traffic.

Location Clearance
Centennial Bridge 5.5 metres (18 feet)
Railway Bridge (pedestrian) 6.0 metres (19 feet 8 inches)
Ferris Street Bridge 4.8 metres (15 feet 9 inches)

Truck regulations

Engine brakes

Using an engine brake is not allowed on residential streets between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. This rule helps keep noise down for local residents. Engine brakes are permitted on all other city streets outside these hours.

Weights and sizes

All vehicles must follow provincial limits. Single axle weight cannot exceed 9,100 kilograms. Gross vehicle weight cannot exceed 38,000 kilograms. Maximum width is 2.6 metres and maximum height is 4.0 metres on most streets (4.1 metres on designated truck routes). Maximum length is 23.5 metres for a single trailer. Vehicles exceeding these limits must obtain a permit from the Engineering Standards Desk.

Secure loads

You must secure all cargo. If anything falls on the road, you must clean it up immediately. Firewood must be contained in a box and cannot stick out more than 30 centimetres. Loose debris creates serious hazards for other drivers and can damage road surfaces.

Reporting violations

If you see a truck speeding or not using a designated route, please report it. Our enforcement team patrols key corridors regularly.

  • Moving vehicle: Call Wrenford Police Service non-emergency line at 519-555-0117.
  • Parked vehicle: Contact By-law Enforcement at 519-555-0100 or dial 311.

Fines for breaking these rules can reach $2,500.00 under Read the full by-law.
