About the Swim for Life program

The Swim for Life program is the City of Wrenford's official learn-to-swim curriculum. It runs at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and Northgate Aquatic Centre. Classes are grouped by age and ability so every swimmer gets the right level of support. Water safety and Water Smart education messages are built into every lesson.

Program levels

  • Infant and toddler (under 3): Parent & Tot 1, 2, and 3. A caregiver stays in the water with the child to build early water comfort and basic safety skills.
  • Preschool (3 to 5 years): Preschool 1 through 5. Focuses on water confidence, kicking, floating, and simple strokes.
  • Child and youth (6 to 17 years): Swimmer 1 through 6. Builds stroke technique, endurance, and independent water safety.
  • Teen and adult: Teen/Adult 1 through 3. Goal-oriented classes for beginners or swimmers who want to refine their strokes and build stamina.

Registration and fees

All courses run for six weeks. The standard fee is $55.00 per course. We recommend booking a free Swimmer Skill Check before you register. This short assessment helps staff place your swimmer in the correct level so they can progress safely.

You can register online through Wrenford Recreation Online. Spots fill quickly, so we suggest signing up as soon as registration opens for the season. If you need help with the online system, visit registration and booking FAQs.

What comes next?

When a swimmer completes all levels in the Swim for Life program, they have finished the standard curriculum. Youth who want to learn how to rescue others from drowning can move on to lifesaving and swim certifications. If you are 15 years of age or older and interested in working at a city pool, check out apply to be a lifeguard or swim instructor.
