Aqua fitness classes

Get fit with low-impact, water-based group classes at two city aquatic centres. Register online or call 311.

What are aqua fitness classes?

Aqua fitness classes use the natural resistance and buoyancy of water to build strength and cardiovascular health without straining your joints. You will move through low-impact exercises in shallow to chest-deep water, often with light foam equipment. These classes are suitable for all fitness levels, and non-swimmers are welcome in the shallow zones.

Where classes are held

Programs run at two city aquatic centres:

  • Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre — 400 Benchlands Drive
  • Northgate Aquatic Centre — 910 Northgate Boulevard

Check the weekly schedule for class times.

How to register

Registered programs open online and at the front desk on these dates:

  • Fall: last Monday of August
  • Winter: first Monday of December
  • Spring/summer and camps: first Monday of March

You can book through the Wrenford Recreation online portal, at any recreation centre, or by calling 311. Spaces fill quickly, so early registration is recommended.

Fees and passes

Registered class packages cost $65.00 per course, depending on the length and level. You can also drop in to select classes. Drop-in admission is $7.00 for adults, $5.50 for seniors and youth, and $4.00 for children. A family pass covers two adults and up to four children. An additional $5.00 fee applies for the aqua fitness class add-on.

If you need help with costs, apply for the Recreation fee assistance program before you register.

Accessibility and safety

Lifeguards are on duty during all public hours and program times. Water temperatures are kept comfortable for exercise. You must wear a secure swimming suit and goggles. If you have mobility concerns or require a Leisure Companion, contact the Accessibility Coordinator at least three weeks before the program starts so we can arrange support.
