Running a paid fitness class in a park
If you plan to lead a fitness class in a city park, you need a permit. This includes yoga, boot camps, and personal training sessions. Parks are for everyone, so we make sure your group does not block paths or disturb neighbours. You can host your sessions at Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, or Benchlands Lookout Park, provided the area is not already booked for another event.

Before you apply
- Business licence: You must hold a valid Wrenford business licence for your fitness services.
- Insurance: You need public liability insurance of at least $2,000,000 naming the City of Wrenford as additionally insured.
- Site map: Submit a simple map showing where your equipment and group will be set up. We need to see that you are not blocking access routes or washrooms.
Permit fees
| Type | Fee |
|---|---|
| Application fee | $75.00 (non-refundable) |
| Commercial permit rate | $50.00 per hour |
The hourly rate covers up to 15 participants plus one instructor. Each additional participant costs $5.00. Permits are valid for a single date or can be booked as a season pass for up to 12 weeks. All fees must be paid before your permit is issued.
Rules and by-laws
When you hold a class in a park, you must follow these rules:
- Noise limits: Follow the Noise By-law. Amplified sound is only allowed in designated areas and must stop by 9:00 p.m.
- Park care: Leave the space as you found it. All equipment must be removed immediately after your session.
- Sales: You may not sell food, drinks, or merchandise on park property without a separate vendor permit.
- Accessibility: Your setup must not block paved pathways or accessible features.
How to apply
Submit your application at least 14 days before your first session. Send your completed application form, proof of insurance, and business licence number to [email protected]. Our team will review your site map and confirm your booking within five business days. You will receive a digital copy of your permit to bring with you on the day of your class.
