Who can book a school gymnasium
School gymnasiums in Wrenford are available to rent for registered non-profit organizations, youth sports leagues, and community groups. Individuals cannot book school gyms for personal events like birthday parties, weddings, or funerals. All bookings must go through the City's School Board Facility Rental Programme.
Locations & availability
Wrenford offers gymnasiums at several school board sites. You can rent spaces at Northgate Secondary School, Mercer Street Elementary, Benchlands Collegiate, and Eastfield Middle School. Each location has different court sizes and ceiling heights. We recommend listing two or three backup dates and locations when you apply. It is your group's responsibility to confirm that the gym size, volleyball nets, and basketball hoops meet your needs. To view a space before booking, call the school's main office to set up a visit.
Operating hours for rentals
- Elementary schools: Monday to Friday, 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
- Junior high schools: Monday to Friday, 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- High schools: Monday to Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- All schools: Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Rental rates
Rates depend on whether the school has a regular evening caretaker, the age of the participants, and the day of the week. A $5.00 risk management fee is added to every permit.

All ages and all caretaking statuses pay $110.00/hr on weekends and statutory holidays. Classrooms and non-public spaces require a principal's signature on the application.

- Direct overtime caretaking for special events: determined case-by-case
How to apply
Submit your application through the Facility rental application portal. You must submit your request at least two weeks before your desired date. If you need to cancel or change your booking, provide 30 days' written notice to avoid fees. A $15.00 administration fee applies to late cancellations.

Supervision & conduct
A designated activity supervisor must be present at all times and is responsible for the safety and conduct of all participants. Parents or guardians dropping off minors must ensure a coach or supervisor is on site before leaving. Inappropriate behaviour will be reported to the school board, and repeated complaints may result in lost booking privileges.
Facility care
- Footwear: Only soft-soled shoes are allowed in the gym. No outside shoes, running shoes, cleats, or hard heels. Indoor runners and socks only.
- Food & drink: No food or drinks are permitted in the gym unless specifically approved on your rental permit.
- Tape & markings: Do not put any tape on the gym floors. Groups are liable for the full cost of floor repairs if tape causes damage.
- Alcohol & smoking: Alcohol is not permitted in any school facility. Smoking and vaping are prohibited on school property and in parking lots.
- Equipment: Basketball hoops and volleyball nets must be returned to their original positions. Do not drag equipment across the floor. Outdoor balls are strictly prohibited. The stage and hallways are off limits for meetings or socializing.
No-show policy
If your group cannot use the booked space, you must notify the school at least 24 hours in advance. Failing to show up without notice may result in a formal complaint and affect your group's ability to reserve space in the future.
