Get connected to settlement and language services

Whether you are new to Canada or recently moved to Wrenford, our community can help you settle in. The City of Wrenford works with local settlement organizations and community partners to make sure you can find the support you need. We offer outreach sessions, information guides, and referrals to programs that help you navigate daily life, find work, register your children in school, and access health care.

What services are available

Settlement organizations funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) provide free or low-cost services. These services include:

  • One-on-one settlement counselling and needs assessments
  • Language training through the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program
  • Employment support, including resume writing and interview preparation
  • Help with housing, transportation, and applying for provincial health cards
  • Programs for youth, seniors, and families

How to access support

You can access these services in a few simple ways:

  1. Visit a Community Connection Hub: We host monthly newcomer information sessions at Wrenford City Hall and at community centres like the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre and the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre. Staff and settlement workers are on-site to answer questions and help you fill out forms.
  2. Call or visit 211 Ontario: Dial 2-1-1 or visit the 211 Ontario website. This free, confidential, multilingual service connects you to thousands of community and social services across the province.
  3. Visit the Service Wrenford counter: City staff at City Hall can direct you to the right local agency or program.

Fees and eligibility

Most IRCC-funded settlement programs are free. Language classes may require a short waiting period or a referral from a settlement worker. Some community recreation programs offer fee assistance through the Leisure Access Programme. All services are available in multiple languages, and interpretation support is provided when needed.

Emergency and mental health support

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available right away:

  • 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline: Call or text 9-8-8 toll-free, anytime, anywhere in Canada. Trained counsellors provide emotional support and referrals.
  • Emergency services: Dial 9-1-1 for immediate police, fire, or medical assistance.
