About the inspection programme
All landlords in Wrenford must have their rental units inspected for fire safety. This is required under the Residential Rental Property Licensing By-law 2024-078 and helps keep your tenants safe. The Wrenford Fire Rescue team checks that your property meets the National Fire Code of Canada standards before you can renew your rental licence.
What the inspector checks
During the visit, the fire inspector will look at the following areas:
- Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are installed correctly and working
- Emergency exits and exit signs to confirm they are clear and visible
- Electrical wiring and panels for any outdated or unsafe components
- Heating systems and fuel storage areas for proper ventilation
- Fire suppression equipment, such as extinguishers, if your building type requires it
- General housekeeping in hallways, stairwells, and basements
How to book your inspection
You can schedule your inspection through the Business Licensing Office or by calling Fire Rescue directly. Please have your property address and landlord licence number ready when you call. Inspections are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. You will receive a confirmation email with the date and time. If you need to change your appointment, please give at least 48 hours notice.
Inspection fees
Fees are set out in the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151. All payments are due before the inspection date. You can pay online, by phone, or in person at City Hall.
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Initial rental unit inspection | $150.00 |
| Re-inspection (if corrections are needed) | $75.00 |
| Follow-up inspection for compliance | $100.00 |
After the inspection
You will receive a written report within five business days. If the inspector finds any issues, the report will list the required corrections and a deadline to fix them. You must submit proof of repairs or schedule a follow-up inspection before your rental licence can be renewed. Failure to address fire safety hazards can result in fines or licence suspension.
