What you need to know
Fire suppression systems use water, chemicals, or foam to put out fires automatically. If you are building a new space or upgrading an older one, you must submit a fire safety plan for any suppression equipment. These plans show the Wrenford Fire Rescue Service that your system meets the Ontario Building Code and Ontario Fire Code.
Submitting a plan protects your building and keeps everyone safe. It also makes sure your equipment works when an emergency happens.
How to submit your plan
Follow these steps to get your plan approved:
- Gather your system design drawings and technical specifications.
- Fill out the Fire Safety Plan Application Form on the Service Wrenford portal.
- Upload your drawings and the form to the Fire Prevention online portal.
- Pay the review fee using the portal or by mailing a cheque to City Hall.
- Wait for your approval notice. You will hear back within four to six weeks.
Keep a copy of your approved plan in your building. Share it with your building manager or safety team. You can also explore our guide on Building Permits for other construction requirements.
Who can work on your system
You must hire a licensed fire protection technician to install, test, or fix suppression equipment. In Ontario, these technicians must hold a current licence from a recognized provincial trade association and carry their card with them at work.
Ask your contractor for their technician number. You can check if they are properly licensed before you hire them. The City does not test the equipment itself, but we do check that the person who installed it has the right licence.
Some equipment makers offer their own training certificates. These are helpful, but they do not replace the city licence you need for all suppression work in Wrenford.
Fees and timelines
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Initial plan review | $200.00 |
| Re-inspection after revisions | $75.00 |
| Annual plan update | $50.00 |
Plans are reviewed in the order they arrive. You will get an email when an inspector takes your file. If your plan needs changes, you have thirty days to send in a revised version. If you miss the deadline, you must pay the fee again. Once approved, the inspector will send a digital approval letter. You must keep this letter with your building records and show it during any routine fire safety checks.
