About these standards
If you are an engineer, developer, or contractor planning infrastructure work in Wrenford, these documents set the rules for how your designs must be built. The City uses these standards to protect public safety, keep our water and sewer systems running smoothly, and make sure new roads and trails work for everyone. All plans must follow the standards in this section, as well as the by-laws and the Official Plan.
Design criteria and standard drawings
The Engineering Design Criteria package contains the technical requirements for every type of public infrastructure project. You will find detailed tables, cross-sections, and construction notes here. The current package includes:
- Schedule A – Wrenford Design Criteria (roadway, sidewalk, and utility requirements)
- Schedule B – Standard Drawings (reproducible construction details for valves, manholes, hydrants, and tree protection)
- Schedule C – Supplementary Specifications (water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and road materials)
- Schedule D – Summary of Updates (a log of all recent changes and effective dates)
Utility and environmental standards
Wrenford requires specific design approaches for water, wastewater, and stormwater management. Review these documents before you start your site plan:
- Water and Wastewater Design Standards – sizing, pressure zones, and pump station requirements
- Integrated Stormwater Management Plans – guidelines for managing runoff and protecting the Tamsin River and Corvid Creek
- Erosion and Sediment Control Guidelines – required measures for construction sites near the ravine and lake
- Street Furniture and Landscaping Specifications – approved materials for benches, signage, and street trees
Submitting your plans
All engineering drawings must be submitted electronically through the Planning and Development portal. Your plans must be stamped by a licensed professional engineer in Ontario. The City reviews plans against the current Design Criteria, the Zoning bylaw, and the Water and Wastewater By-law 2017-090.
Review times depend on the complexity of the project. Simple residential connections are processed in five business days. Major infrastructure or subdivision plans may take four to six weeks. You can check the current processing timelines on our website.
Fees and charges
The City charges review fees for plan submissions. These fees cover the staff time needed to check your drawings for compliance. Fees are set out in the Fees and Charges By-law 2025-151 and vary by project type and size. A review fee is non-refundable once the review process begins.
