What the by-law covers
The Community Standards By-law helps keep Wrenford safe, clean, and respectful for everyone. It sets clear rules for how we use public spaces and our own properties. The by-law focuses on four main areas:
- Noise control
- Property maintenance
- Public behaviour
- Sidewalk maintenance
Noise control
You must keep noise at a level that does not disturb the peace of neighbours. Construction work and garbage collection are not allowed before 7:00 a.m. or after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends and holidays, quiet hours start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 10:00 p.m.
Property maintenance
Properties must be kept in a clean and tidy condition. This means keeping grass and weeds under control, removing garbage and construction debris promptly, and not leaving derelict vehicles on your property or the street. If your property does not meet these standards, a by-law officer may issue a compliance order under the Property standards bylaw.
Public behaviour
Public spaces are for everyone. The by-law prohibits fighting, littering, and public urination or defecation. We expect all residents and visitors to treat our parks, trails, and streets with care.
Sidewalk maintenance
After a snowfall or ice storm, you must clear snow and ice from the sidewalk in front of your property within 48 hours. This keeps the path safe for pedestrians, including those using strollers or wheelchairs. In winter, refer to the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law for snow removal rules and the on-street parking ban.
Reporting a violation
If you see a problem in your neighbourhood, let us know. You can report a violation by calling 311 (or 519-555-0100 from outside the city), emailing [email protected], or using the online reporting form. By-law officers will assess the report and take the appropriate next steps.
Enforcement and appeals
Our by-law officers focus on education and voluntary compliance first. If a violation continues, officers may issue a ticket under the Provincial Offences Act. If you receive a ticket or a compliance order and wish to contest it, you can appeal to the Wrenford Licensing and Community Standards Board. You must file your appeal within fourteen days of receiving the notice. The filing fee is $75.00. You can submit your appeal form and payment to the Clerk of the Appeal Board at Wrenford City Hall or by mail.
