Noise and dust control guidelines

Rules for construction noise and dust in Wrenford, including allowed hours, neighbour notification, and permit applications.

Construction noise hours

You can run noisy construction equipment on private property or city streets during these times:

Day Allowed hours
Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday and statutory holidays No construction noise permitted

Noise from power tools, jackhammers, concrete mixers, bulldozers, and heavy trucks is covered by these rules. This applies to new builds, renovations, road work, and site clearing. The Noise By-law 2016-122 sets these limits to keep our neighbourhoods peaceful while still allowing the city to grow and improve.

Dust control requirements

Construction dust can affect your health and the quality of life in your neighbourhood. Wrenford requires contractors to control dust at all times. Dust can travel far and settle on cars, windows, and gardens.

  • Keep all trucks and dirt piles covered with tarps when moving around the site or on public roads.
  • Wet down unpaved roads and work areas daily with water trucks to keep soil in place.
  • Do not use air compressors or blowers to clean dust off clothes, equipment, or the ground.
  • Spray water on exposed soil during windy days to prevent dust clouds from drifting into nearby homes.
  • Secure all construction materials and debris so they do not blow onto sidewalks or streets.

Notify your neighbours

If your project will generate noise or dust outside the standard hours, or if it involves heavy equipment for more than two days, you must tell nearby residents. Give written or verbal notice at least three days before work starts. Include your contact information so neighbours can reach you directly with concerns. This helps build trust and stops small issues from becoming formal complaints.

Apply for a noise permit

If you need to work outside the allowed hours, or run equipment earlier or later than the schedule above, you must get a construction noise permit first. You can apply online or pick up a form at City Hall. Permits are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We look at the type of work, the location, and the impact on nearby homes and businesses.

The application fee is $150.00. We review requests within five business days. Permits are not guaranteed and may be cancelled if complaints keep coming in. If a permit is revoked, all noisy work must stop immediately until you file a new request.

Report a noise or dust problem

If a construction site is breaking the rules, please report it. Our by-law officers will visit the site and ask the contractor to stop or fix the issue. Persistent violations can lead to fines under the Noise By-law 2016-122.

You can report noise or dust complaints by calling 519-555-0100 or using the online service centre. Please provide the exact address, the type of noise or dust, and the time it started. This helps our team respond quickly and effectively.
