What you can request
Property owners and their authorised representatives can ask for copies of historical building permit documents. This includes house and building plans, permit history reports, and inspection reports. We keep digital archives for most commercial buildings, condominiums, and one- and two-family dwellings built in Wrenford. We cannot guarantee that every set of plans will be available, and older files may not include structural or mechanical drawings.
Please note that we do not provide Surveyor's Certificates or Real Property Reports. Provincial legislation requires you to contact a licensed land surveyor for this information.
Who can request
Current property owners can request permit records and historical plans for their own property under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
Authorised representatives—such as contractors, realtors, or engineers—can also request records. You must provide a signed and dated authorisation letter from the registered property owner.
Interested parties can request a permit history report. This is considered a public record and does not require proof of ownership.
What you need to provide
Every request requires the civic address of the property. If you are asking for building plans or inspection reports, you must also provide:
- A valid government-issued photo ID to prove ownership, or
- The signed authorisation letter if you are not the registered owner.
If you are requesting plans for a strata-titled building, you must also include a letter of permission from the Strata Council or property management company.
Fees and processing time
A permit history report is free. For building plans and permit documents, fees cover the time spent researching and retrieving files. You will receive a cost estimate before we begin work.
| Service | Cost |
|---|---|
| Permit history report | Free |
| Building plans and permit documents | $50.00 minimum retrieval fee, plus $0.25 per digital page |
We aim to process requests within five business days for residential properties and up to 15 business days for larger commercial files. Payment is required before we release the documents.
How to apply
You can submit your request online through the Service Wrenford portal or by mail. Please select "Request plans/drawings" under the type of enquiry.
- Complete the Building Records Request Form with the property address and your contact details.
- Attach your photo ID or authorisation letter.
- Submit the form online or mail it to the Planning and Development office.
Once we receive your request, we will email you a link to pay the fees. After payment, we will email you the scanned digital copies of the records.
