On Thursday, April 9, 2026, the Wrenford Youth Council will present its latest urban design concepts for the Centennial Gardens renewal project. The pop-up consultation will take place at the Gardens, located at 5 Victoria Street, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. City planners, landscape architects, and youth representatives will be on site to walk you through the plans and collect your thoughts.
Over the past three months, the Youth Council has worked closely with city staff to draft ideas that make the downtown park more comfortable and accessible for everyone. The designs focus on wider, smooth pathways that are easy to navigate in any weather, shaded seating areas placed near the formal gardens, and a small, quiet water feature that sits back from the existing cenotaph so it does not disturb visitors. The plans also include new native plantings that will attract pollinators and provide natural shade for older adults and young children.
“We want a space that truly works for every generation,” says City Manager Robert Eng. “When young people help design a park, they think about safety, comfort, and fun in ways that really help us build something better for all our neighbours.”
You are invited to stop by and look through the large design boards. Bring your suggestions for better lighting, more benches, or safer crossing points. Seniors who visit the Gardens daily can share what features help them enjoy the space, and families can help pick which new flowers and shrubs should go in the flowerbeds. City staff will be available to answer questions about the budget, the construction timeline, and how the City keeps the park safe during the work.
The Youth Council will collect all feedback and present it to City Council for final approval later this spring. Once the plan is approved, crews will begin site preparation in the fall.
