Wrenford water crews will begin flushing water mains in the west end on Monday, March 30, 2026. This seasonal maintenance clears sediment from the pipes and ensures strong water pressure throughout the network. Crews will work through the Benchlands, Westbrook, and Larch Heights neighbourhoods over the coming weeks.
Flushing involves running water at high speed through fire hydrants to wash out built-up minerals and sediment. You might notice brown or cloudy water in your taps during this time. This is normal and harmless. To clear your home's pipes, run the cold water tap in your bathtub or a basement sink for five to ten minutes until the water runs clear. Do not use hot water during this process, as it can draw sediment into your water heater.
If your water looks discoloured, wait for it to clear before doing laundry or running the dishwasher. You can also check our Water main flushing schedule and info page for your exact street's date.
Occasionally, flushing can lower water pressure temporarily. If you notice a drop in pressure or need to report a break, call 519-555-0100 or use the 311 dial option within city limits. Our crews are out on the roads daily and will respond quickly to any issues.
"We run these tests and flushes every spring and fall to keep the water safe and the pressure steady," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "It takes a bit of patience on your part, but it makes a big difference in the quality of water we deliver to your tap."
If you ever see a hydrant open without a crew nearby, or if you notice water running for more than a few hours, please report it right away. Flushing is scheduled, and any unexpected flow could signal a leak or a main break.
