Wrenford tree planting program applications open for spring 2026

Wrenford residents can now apply online for a free tree through the Canopy for Wrenford program. Applications are open from March 20 until 11:59 p.m. on April 14, 2026.

The program gives residents a chance to receive a healthy, nursery-grown tree at no cost. These trees help expand the city's urban canopy, improve air quality and provide shade for homes and streets across Wrenford.

Residents with a private yard or a large outdoor planter can submit one application per household. Entries are chosen through a random draw. Residents who received a free tree through the program in the past two seasons are not eligible this year.

Successful applicants will be notified by email in early May. City staff will deliver the tree directly to your home during the last week of April or the first week of May. Each recipient also receives a care guide with planting tips and watering schedules to help the tree thrive in its new home.

"Every tree we plant makes our neighbourhoods cooler, cleaner and more welcoming," said Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We want to make it easy for residents to add more green space to their properties this spring."

Before planting, please call 811 to confirm that your chosen spot does not have underground utilities. You should also check your property lines to make sure the tree fits within your yard. If you need help deciding where to plant, you can find a list of trees that work well in Wrenford's soil and climate on the program page.

To apply, visit the Canopy for Wrenford page online. You will need a valid Wrenford address and an email address to receive your application confirmation and results.

Applications close on April 14, 2026. Once the draw is complete, selected residents will receive their tree and planting instructions before the end of May.
