Wrenford releases third quarter 2026 operating variance report

On August 5, 2026, the City of Wrenford released its third quarter 2026 operating variance report. This report shows how the City’s revenue and spending have tracked against the approved 2026 budget for the first nine months of the year. It helps Council and residents see where the City stands financially as we move through the fiscal year.

The report covers the period from January 1 to September 30, 2026. It shows a favourable year-to-date variance of $135.2 million. This positive result comes from higher-than-expected property tax collections, strong user fees from recreation and transit, and disciplined spending by all city departments. Staff have carefully managed costs while keeping essential services running smoothly.

"This quarter’s favourable variance reflects strong revenue collection and careful cost management across all departments," says Leah Thibodeau, City Treasurer and General Manager of Corporate Services. "It gives us more room to invest in key services and infrastructure while keeping property tax increases manageable for residents."

Operating variance reports are a standard part of our financial planning. They allow the City to monitor its budget health, adjust plans if needed, and ensure we stay on track to deliver the services you rely on. The surplus this quarter means staff can explore options to strengthen our reserves, fund priority projects, or adjust service levels in the coming months. The final full-year report will be presented to City Council in early 2027.
