The City of Wrenford begins its annual infrastructure work on April 7, with crews ready to resurface roads, renew sidewalks, and upgrade storm drains across the city.
Construction season is here, and your streets will be the focus. The City has budgeted $38 million for capital projects this year, targeting road refurbishing, sidewalk renewal, and storm drain maintenance. Work starts on the Spring Road Repair Program, which patches potholes, seals cracks, and fixes drainage issues before the spring rains hit.
Crews will also be active in the Asphalt Resurfacing Program, covering about 32 lane kilometres of major streets. You can expect work on sections of Benchlands Drive, Ambrel Lake Road, and Northgate Boulevard. In the downtown core, Mill Street and Water Street will get fresh pavement and new curb sections. The City is also replacing roughly 3.5 kilometres of concrete sidewalk and installing new bicycle parking facilities along the Tamsin River Trail.
"Construction season is a big deal for us," says Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. "We are investing in the roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems that keep Wrenford moving and safe. We know work in your neighbourhood can be an inconvenience, but these upgrades will pay off for years to come."
Streetlight crews are continuing the LED Retrofit Programme, swapping older lenses for flat fixtures that reduce light pollution and save energy. Storm drain crews are using steam equipment to clear frozen catch basins and restore flow as the snow melts. If you notice a pothole, a broken street light, or a blocked catch basin, you can report it through the City's online service request tool.
Temporary traffic changes and access impacts may happen while work is underway. The City will post signage and share updates on Wrenford 311 and the Service Alerts page so you can plan your routes.
Residents and businesses are asked to follow posted detours, keep clear of work zones, and report any construction site concerns directly to the Roads Inspection Coordinator. For more details on schedules, permits, and winter service routes, visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance page.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we build a stronger, safer Wrenford.
