The City of Wrenford is kicking off its annual spring street sweeping program on March 31. Crews from the Roads & Winter Maintenance department will move through every neighbourhood over the coming weeks, clearing out the sand, gravel, and debris that piled up during the cold months.
Keeping our streets clean does more than make the city look better. Sweeping removes grit that can damage road surfaces and washes away debris that clogs our Street drainage and catch basins. By keeping these basins clear, we help rain and snowmelt flow freely into the storm sewer system instead of backing up onto our roads and lawns.
“Our crews work hard to clear the sand and grit that builds up over the winter,” said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. “Moving your vehicle when we post signs helps us finish the job quickly and keeps everyone safer on the road.”
Here is what you need to know as the sweepers hit your street:
- Watch for signs: We will post “No Parking” signs on streets a day or two before crews arrive. If you see a sign, please move your vehicle so sweepers can clean the full width of the road.
- Expect some dust: Sweeping can stir up fine sand and dirt. Close your windows and keep pets indoors while the trucks are working on your block.
- Stay back: Please stay at least three car lengths away from the sweeping equipment. The trucks spray water to keep dust down, but loose debris can still fly.
- Weather delays: If it rains heavily, crews will skip that area and return once the streets are dry.
Crews are working up to fifty hours a week to finish all routes before the busy summer season begins. If you have questions about the schedule or need to report a missed street, call 311 or visit 519-555-0100 during business hours.
