The City of Wrenford is rolling out the upgrades today, August 27, 2026, at the Northgate Drop-off Depot to help residents separate materials more easily. Visitors will find a refreshed recycling area featuring heavier-duty bins, improved sorting signage, and dedicated stations for electronics and metal scrap.
The upgrades address feedback from community members who noted that the previous containers were often damaged or difficult to sort. The new bins are colour-coded to match the Blue Box program guidelines, making it easier to separate paper, cardboard, plastics, and metals before drop-off. A covered steel cage has also been installed for scrap metal, keeping loose items secure and preventing wind-blown debris from escaping onto the property.
When visiting the depot, please continue to rinse out food containers and flatten all cardboard before placing them in the Blue Box recycling bins. If you have electronic waste, use the newly expanded e-waste chute located just inside the main entrance. Staff are available on-site during operating hours to answer questions and guide you through the new sorting stations.
"Getting recycling right at the depot is just as important as curbside sorting," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "These upgraded bins will make it simpler for residents to keep contaminants out of the recycling stream, which helps us meet our diversion targets and keeps processing costs down."
The Northgate Drop-off Depot is located at 1010 Northgate Boulevard, Wrenford, ON N4Q 4B8. It is open Wednesday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information on what can go in your Blue Box bin or to view the complete drop-off schedule, visit Blue bin and recycling collection.
