Northgate Drop-off Depot extends hazardous waste hours

Starting Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Northgate Drop-off Depot at 1010 Northgate Boulevard will extend its hazardous waste drop-off window to run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. This change makes it easier for residents in the north end of the city to safely dispose of paints, solvents, automotive fluids, batteries and other special items without driving to the main facility.

Household hazardous waste is not accepted in your regular garbage, Blue Bin or Green Bin. When these materials are thrown in the regular trash, they can leak into the soil, pollute our waterways and create safety risks for waste collection crews. By dropping them off at the depot, Wrenford ensures they are recycled or disposed of safely.

"Keeping our neighbourhoods clean and our water systems safe means getting special waste out of the bin," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "By extending the Saturday morning hours at Northgate, we are making it easier for you to do the right thing for your community and the environment."

Residents can drop off a wide range of special items at no charge, including:

  • Paints, stains and solvents
  • Automotive fluids and antifreeze
  • Batteries and fluorescent light bulbs
  • Pesticides, herbicides and propane tanks

Please bring items in their original containers, if possible. If a container is leaking, place it inside a larger, leak-proof bag or box. Keep all items upright during transport, and do not mix chemicals together.

The Northgate Drop-off Depot is also open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for general recyclables, construction debris and other materials. For a full list of accepted items, preparation rules and depot locations, visit our Household hazardous waste page.
