Northgate Aquatic Centre scheduled to close March 20 for renewal

The Northgate Aquatic Centre at 910 Northgate Boulevard will close for a major renewal project starting Friday, March 20, 2026. The facility is expected to reopen in late April, once the spring thaw arrives and outdoor rink season ends. This scheduled shutdown allows the City to replace aging mechanical systems, upgrade the water filtration plant, and refresh the public washrooms and locker rooms.

During the closure, the 50-metre lap pool and dive tank will be unavailable. Drop-in public swimming and scheduled swim lessons will move to the 25-metre lap pool at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre on Benchlands Drive. The Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre will extend its evening hours to accommodate the overflow, and drop-in fitness classes will continue as normal. Residents who rely on the Northgate Aquatic Centre for public skating can use the outdoor rink at Riverside Flats Park or the two ice pads at the Westbrook Community Arena until the outdoor season begins.

Staff are asking families to review their current bookings and move them to another location before March 20. If you have a season pass or a group booking that conflicts with the closure, please visit a recreation facility front desk or call 519-555-0121 to speak with a booking specialist. You can also visit the holiday and closure schedule online to see the full list of seasonal shutdowns.

"We understand that sudden changes to your routine can be frustrating, but this renewal will make the Northgate Aquatic Centre safer and more energy-efficient for the next decade," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "Our staff are working hard to keep all other aquatic and fitness programmes running smoothly while we complete this work."
