Green bin collection moves to weekly from May 6 for 2026 season

The City of Wrenford will return to weekly green bin collection across the city on Monday, May 6, 2026, for the 2026 season. This change brings your organics collection back in line with your regular garbage and Blue Box recycling days as spring weather arrives and residents begin yard work.

During the winter months, green bin collection runs on a biweekly schedule to match garbage collection days. The shorter interval over the colder months helps manage heavier snowfall, limits equipment wear, and reduces odours when yard waste volumes drop. As temperatures warm and the ground thaws, the City will shift back to the standard weekly service.

Residents should check their collection schedules online or through the Wrenford 311 app to confirm their specific pickup day. You can also set up service alerts so you get a text or email reminder the evening before your collection day. As the parks and trails network sees more foot traffic this spring, make sure your green bin sits on the sidewalk, not in the road, so it does not block paths or cause tripping hazards.

Keep the lid closed and do not bag your organics inside the bin. If you use paper yard-waste bags, you can continue to leave them curbside on the same day as your green bin, through the end of November. If a bin is left blocking a trail or walkway, please use the online reporting tool so crews can move it quickly.

"We know that weekly organics collection is a key part of keeping our streets clean and reducing the amount of waste that goes to the landfill," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Switching back to a weekly schedule in May ensures we can keep up with the extra yard trimmings and garden waste that come with the warmer months."
