The replacement of the heavy-duty bay doors at Fire Station 2, located at 880 Northgate Boulevard, is now complete. The project wrapped up on June 27, 2026, after several months of work that involved removing the old steel doors, repairing the track systems, and installing new insulated, motor-driven bays.
Roads & Winter Maintenance crews and contracted specialists worked in shifts to ensure that emergency vehicles could leave the station without delay. The new doors feature quieter opening and closing mechanisms, which will help reduce noise for the residential properties along the boulevard. The project also included upgrades to the exterior concrete apron to improve drainage and reduce ice buildup in front of the garage.
The new bay doors are a major upgrade for our firefighters, says City Manager Robert Eng. They open faster, they are more energy-efficient, and they keep the station warmer in the winter. We want our crews to have the best tools and environment possible.
Residents who noticed construction equipment or temporary lane shifts near the station over the past few weeks will see the road return to its normal layout. The concrete work at the front of the station has been finished, and the area is now safe for pedestrians and vehicles.
