Fire safety plans required for new construction sites in 2026

Starting this spring, the City of Wrenford requires developers and contractors to submit a fire safety plan before breaking ground on any new construction project. The rule applies to all sites across the city, with enforcement led by the Wrenford Fire Rescue team. You will need to have your plan approved before work begins.

The City uses a simple two-step process based on the size and type of work. For residential projects under $15,000, you can use the Generic Construction Plan template. Larger commercial projects and multi-unit buildings need a Custom Site-Specific Plan. Both templates are built to protect your workers, first responders, and the public. They lay out exactly where emergency exits are, how fire detection systems will work, and what crew members need to do if a fire starts.

Submitting your plan early keeps your project on schedule. Fire prevention officers review submissions within five business days. Once approved, you must keep a copy on site and update it if the layout or systems change.

A solid plan on paper saves time and keeps everyone safe on site. We want to make sure every crew knows exactly where exits are and how systems work before the first wall goes up, said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley.

To get started, download the Fire Safety Plan template and symbol guide from our construction site planning page. Upload your completed form through the Service Wrenford portal and pay the required fee.
