Starting next week, the City of Wrenford will begin unannounced fire safety inspections for businesses in the downtown centre. The inspections will cover blocks along Mercer, Tamsin, Water, and Mill Streets.
This initiative is led by the Fire Rescue team in partnership with Tamsin Valley Public Health and the Wrenford Police Service. The joint inspections will check for common hazards, including blocked fire exits, malfunctioning alarms, proper storage of flammable materials, and clear access to fire hydrants.
“Keeping our downtown safe is a shared responsibility,” said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. “These inspections help us catch small issues before they become big problems, and they give you peace of mind that you are meeting all required safety standards.”
You will not receive advance notice. Inspectors will visit your business during normal operating hours. If minor violations are found, officers will provide on-the-spot guidance and a written notice with a deadline to make corrections. Serious violations may result in a compliance order or a referral to By-law Enforcement under the Building Code Act, 1992.
The inspection schedule will run through the fall of 2026, with new neighbourhoods added in 2027. The City is also reminding you that you must keep a current fire safety plan on site and that fire safety inspections for businesses are a required part of the annual compliance cycle.
