Wrenford Fire Rescue is holding ice rescue training at Ambrel Lake Park from January 26 to February 12, 2026. Firefighters will use this time to practice cold-water rescue skills and keep their emergency response readiness high.
During the training period, crews will create and maintain open water in the ice near the north shore of the park to simulate rescue scenarios. You may see emergency vehicles parked nearby, and the training zone will be marked clearly with barrier tape and safety cones.
For everyone’s safety, please stay well back from the marked area and do not cross the tape. The water will be kept open in specific spots for the exercises, which means the surrounding ice may be thinner or less stable than usual. If you are enjoying the Tamsin River Trail System or heading to the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre, please use the alternate routes around the park and watch for detour signs.
"Our firefighters rely on regular practice to stay safe and effective when real emergencies happen," said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as they carry out these essential drills on the ice."
If you have questions about the training or need to report a concern, you can call 311 inside city limits or reach the Fire Station 1 (Headquarters) administration office at 519-555-0115 during business hours. Emergency calls should always go to 9-1-1.
Ice rescue is just one part of the city's broader winter preparedness efforts. Wrenford Fire Rescue and the Emergency Management team work together to ensure the city is ready for extreme weather and seasonal hazards.
