Fire crews are reminding Wrenford residents to follow fireworks safety rules as the city prepares for Canada Day celebrations at Centennial Gardens on July 1.
Only licensed professionals are allowed to set off fireworks in the city. This rule helps keep families, pets and property safe from preventable injuries and fires. Residents who want to enjoy the national holiday can attend the free Canada Day in the Park event downtown, where a licensed pyrotechnics team will handle the sky show.
For those celebrating at home, fire prevention officers recommend safer alternatives like glow sticks, noisemakers or family crafts. These options keep the fun going without the risk of burns or accidental fires. If you plan to hold a small gathering and want to light a bonfire instead, you will need a seasonal open-air burning permit. You can apply online or visit Fire Station 1 (Headquarters) at 210 Water Street.
"We want to remind everyone to leave fireworks to the professionals," said Simon Hartley, Deputy Fire Chief. "Fireworks can cause serious injuries and damage property quickly. Our priority is keeping our neighbourhoods safe while you enjoy the long weekend."
If you see anyone setting off unauthorized fireworks in a park, backyard or on a street, please report the incident using the Service Wrenford portal or by calling 311. By-law enforcement officers will respond to the location.
