East Wrenford Waste Management Facility expansion 2026 update

The City of Wrenford is moving forward with a $4.2 million expansion at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, located at 3500 Concession 4 Road. The project is designed to double our sorting capacity and reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill, keeping us on track to meet our 60 per cent diversion target by 2030.

Construction is well underway and the expanded facility is scheduled to open in early 2027. The upgrade includes a new materials recovery building where staff and machinery will sort recyclables more efficiently, a second drop-off bay for household hazardous waste, and wider internal access roads to handle heavier truck traffic.

"Our residents expect a modern, efficient waste system. This expansion gives us the space and technology we need to keep Wrenford clean while meeting our goal of diverting 60 per cent of waste by 2030," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services.

Because construction vehicles will be travelling along Concession 4 Road, the City's Roads & Winter Maintenance team is closely monitoring the route. Crews will carry out spot repairs and manage dust control daily. If you live or work in the Industrial Park East area, you may notice increased heavy truck traffic between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Please follow all posted detours and construction signage.

The East Wrenford Waste Management Facility remains open to the public during the construction phase. You can still bring your yard waste, electronics, and household hazardous waste to the drop-off depot. Hours of operation continue Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For the most current information on waste collection schedules and what goes in your blue bin and green bin, visit our Recycling facility and landfill information page.

We appreciate your patience as we build a better system for waste management in Wrenford. For more details on how this project fits into our long-term environmental goals, see our Waste management master plan.
