Council approves decrease to 2027 residential tax rate

Wrenford City Council approved the 2027 property tax rate at its regular meeting on Monday, February 2, 2026. The decision lowers the residential tax rate by 4.8 per cent, bringing it down from $725.00 to $690.00 for every $100,000 of assessed property value.

This decrease marks the largest drop in the residential rate in five years. Council made the change to help homeowners manage rising living costs while keeping funding steady for the services you rely on every day. The approved rate is part of the 2026 Tax Levy By-law 2026-044, which was passed to balance the city’s budget for the coming year.

“Wrenford residents have been clear that affordability matters to them, and this year’s tax decision reflects that feedback,” said City Treasurer Leah Thibodeau. “We are able to lower the rate without cutting back on essential services because of careful financial planning and steady growth across the city.”

Your property tax bill is based on the assessed value of your home, which is set by the provincial assessment authority and not the City. Even when the tax rate goes down, your individual tax amount might still go up if your home’s assessed value has increased. The residential rate applies to all single-family and multi-unit homes, but commercial and industrial properties have a separate rate.

Along with the municipal rate, your tax notice will include a provincial education tax. The City collects this amount on behalf of the Province of Ontario and sends it directly to the province. This provincial portion is set by the government and does not change based on the City’s rate.

When to pay and how to manage your bill

Interim tax notices for 2027 will be mailed in April. Interim payments are due on the last business days of February and April 2027. Final tax notices will arrive in July, with payments due on the last business days of June and September 2027.

If you would like to spread your payments out, you can join the Tax Installment Payment Plan (TIPP). This plan lets you pay your annual tax bill in equal monthly instalments through your bank, with no interest or penalties. You can also set up pre-authorized monthly payments through Service Wrenford. Both options help you avoid surprise bills and keep your payments on track.
