City launches new heritage walking tour of downtown district

Starting today, April 10, 2026, the City of Wrenford is launching a new self-guided heritage walking tour of the downtown district, highlighting historic buildings and landmarks along Mill Street and the Tamsin River. The 'Mill Street Memories' tour is now available as a free printable map and guide for residents and visitors to explore on their own.

The walking tour takes you through the heart of the downtown core, stopping at key sites that tell the story of Wrenford from its founding in 1834 to the present day. Along the route, you will see the restored 1834 grist mill at the Old Mill Museum & Archives, the formal gardens and cenotaph at Centennial Gardens, and the historic shops that line Mill Street. The guide includes photographs, historical facts, and short stories about the people who built the city.

The downtown district holds the earliest memories of our community, and this tour is a wonderful way to share those stories with everyone, says Gwen Lachance, Heritage & Archives Coordinator. We want people to look around their neighbourhood and see the history right on their doorstep.

The new walking tour is part of the City's broader Arts & Heritage programming, which aims to make local history accessible to all. You can pick up a printed copy of the map at Wrenford City Hall, the Old Mill Museum & Archives, or the downtown branches of the Wrenford Public Library. The digital version can be downloaded directly from the City's website.

The tour is designed for independent walking, but the City also recommends bringing comfortable shoes and checking the weather before you head out. Families are encouraged to take the tour together, and it takes about two hours to complete at a relaxed pace.
