Wrenford City Council approved $2.1 million in funding for the Community Street Care program on May 19, 2026. The program will create low-barrier employment opportunities for local residents while keeping streets and alleys clean across the city.

“The Community Street Care program is a great example of how we can meet two goals at once,” says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “We keep our public spaces safe and tidy, and we help people build work experience, confidence, and connections to other jobs.”
The program funds community-based organizations to run supervised teams that collect litter, needles, and debris on foot using brooms, shovels, and wheeled carts. This work supports the City's own street cleaning crews, which focus on larger equipment and waste bin collection.
The $2.1 million will be shared among five local partner organizations over a new three-year funding cycle. The shift to multi-year grants gives partner groups stability to plan their training programs and support workers with long-term employment goals. Participants will receive on-the-job training, workplace safety certification, and access to career coaching. The program is expected to deliver thousands of work hours for people who face barriers to traditional employment, including youth, newcomers, and residents re-entering the workforce.
If you are looking for a new role, you can apply through a partner organization by visiting the Careers page. The City also reminds you to help keep Wrenford clean by using the nearest waste depot or curbside collection service.
