City celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day with community gathering

On Sunday, June 21, the City of Wrenford invites residents to join a community gathering to honour National Indigenous Peoples Day. The event will take place at Riverside Flats Park, located at 25 Water Street, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This day is a meaningful opportunity to learn, reflect, and celebrate the diverse histories, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.

Hosted in partnership with the Wrenford Public Library, Tamsin Valley Public Health, and the Wrenford Police Service, the gathering will feature a full day of cultural programming. Attendees will enjoy live performances by local Indigenous artists and musicians, craft demonstrations, and interactive learning stations. Community organizations will also have tables set up to share resources and connect with neighbours. Food vendors and a traditional tea service will be available for purchase.

“We are so grateful to come together on this special day to honour Indigenous histories, celebrate living cultures, and continue our work towards Reconciliation,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “Everyone is welcome to join us for an afternoon of learning, music, and community.”

The City of Wrenford acknowledges that we live, work and gather on the traditional territories of Indigenous peoples who have cared for this land for generations, and we commit to learning and to reconciliation. This event is a step forward in our ongoing journey.

Here is what you need to know to enjoy the day:
