City approves budget for Ambrel Lake Park splash pad repairs

The City of Wrenford will upgrade the splash pad at Ambrel Lake Park this winter, following Council's approval of the repair budget on Monday. Scheduled to begin in November, the project will replace the existing spray deck and update the water filtration system to improve safety and reduce water waste before reopening in late June.

"Council recognizes that safe, accessible recreation spaces are essential to our neighbourhoods," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "These upgrades will ensure the Ambrel Lake Park splash pad continues to provide a reliable cooling spot for families and youth for years to come."

City Council reviewed the proposed capital projects during its regular meeting on Monday. The splash pad repairs were prioritized based on resident feedback and the facility's condition report. Funding was allocated from the 2026 Capital Works budget, which balances infrastructure maintenance with ongoing service improvements across the city.

The approved budget covers the cost of demolition, new equipment, and site restoration. Work will be carried out by the Parks & Trails team in coordination with contracted specialists. You can expect some noise and temporary fencing around the splash pad area from November through March.

The splash pad at Ambrel Lake Park typically operates daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., running from late June through Labour Day, weather permitting. The facility is free, and you can use it whenever it is open. The repairs are part of the city's broader capital plan to maintain and modernize outdoor recreation infrastructure across Wrenford.
