City announces 2027 development cost charge rates

Development cost charges are one-time fees collected from new residential, commercial, and industrial developments. These funds are used to pay for the capital costs of water and wastewater systems, roads and transit, parks and trails, fire stations, and community facilities that serve new residents.

"As Wrenford welcomes more homes and businesses, we need to ensure the infrastructure keeps pace," said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "The 2027 rates reflect the actual cost of delivering these services and help keep property taxes stable for existing residents."

Under the proposed 2027 rates, the average development cost charge for a single detached house is set at $19,200.00. Commercial and industrial properties will be charged at a rate of $32.00 per square metre. The City also maintains its Infrastructure Deferral Programme, which allows developers to pay these charges over time if they build the required infrastructure themselves to City standards.

The rates will be formalized through By-law 2026-110, the 2027 Development Cost Charges By-law, and will take effect on January 1, 2027. You can review the full rate breakdown and submit applications through the Development Applications section.
