The City of Wrenford is looking for volunteers to help plant flowers, weed garden beds, and apply fresh mulch at Centennial Gardens on Saturday, August 15. The work day runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and all ages are welcome to join.
You will meet at the main garden entrance near the cenotaph. The Parks & Trails team will provide all the tools, gloves, soil, and plants you need. You just need to bring your own water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes, and dress for the weather. We will take a short break in the shade around 11:00 a.m. for snacks and refreshments.
Space is limited to fifty volunteers so we can keep the work area safe and manageable. To reserve your spot, please fill out the volunteer sign-up form online or call the City main line at 519-555-0100 with any questions. We encourage families to bring younger children, but they must be supervised by an adult at all times. The City provides first aid and a quiet rest area near the garden shed.
If rain is forecast for the morning, we will cancel or delay the event and post an update on Service Alerts by 7:00 a.m. on August 15. You can also call the Parks & Trails team directly to confirm the schedule.
“Gardens like this one only work because neighbours care enough to show up,” says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “Every flower you plant and every bed you weed makes our downtown centre a brighter place for everyone who walks by.”
After your shift, take a moment to walk the newly planted beds and see what you helped create. For more information on how to get involved with park and trail projects, visit the Participate in the tree planting program page or check the event calendar for upcoming volunteer days.
