Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre roof repairs complete

The Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre at 1300 Ambrel Lake Road is reopening to the public today, August 1, 2026, after a two-week closure for emergency roof repairs. City staff and contractors finished the work ahead of the Canada Day weekend, ensuring the building is safe and fully operational.

The closure began on July 18 after a section of the ceiling in the main gymnasium began to sag due to a leak. A quick safety review by the City’s Chief Building Official and structural engineers found that the leak had only affected the roof membrane and a small section of interior drywall. Crews replaced the damaged roofing material, repaired the interior finishes, and upgraded the drainage around the building’s foundation to prevent future issues.

The gymnasium and program rooms are now fully available for drop-in fitness, group bookings, and the older adults’ lounge. If you had a booking scheduled during the closure, City staff have already contacted you to reschedule or process a refund. New bookings can be made through the online portal.

“We are glad to have the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre back in full swing,” said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “The repairs were completed quickly, and we want to thank residents for their patience while we kept this important community space safe and accessible.”
