Applications are now open for the Canopy for Wrenford program, which offers 300 free trees to residents for the spring planting season.
Residents can submit their applications online until Friday, April 18, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Each household may submit one entry for a single tree. The application asks you to rank your top five preferences from a list of 10 species, including native selections like the white oak and red maple. Tree assignments will be based on your rankings and what is available. If you received a tree through Canopy for Wrenford in the past two planting seasons, you are not eligible to participate this year.
Canopy for Wrenford is a key part of our strategy to improve air quality and reduce summer heat in our neighbourhoods,
says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. When you plant a tree in your yard or on a boulevard, you are helping the whole city grow more resilient.
Once you are selected, your tree will be delivered in late April or early May. Before you dig, please call 1 Call Ontario to have underground utilities marked. You should also check your property lines to make sure the planting spot is on your own land. The City provides easy-to-follow planting guides and care resources to help your new tree get off to a healthy start.
We want to see your tree in its new home! Once you have planted it, share a photo on social media using #CanopyForWrenford and tag @CityofWrenford on Facebook and X. Recipients will receive their delivery details about two weeks after the application period closes.
