Wrenford releases first half 2025 operating variance report

The City of Wrenford today released its operating variance report for the first half of 2025. The report, reviewed by senior financial staff and presented to City Council on July 29, shows how the city tracked against its approved 2025 budget from January to June.

The report shows a favourable operating variance of $86.4 million for the period. This surplus mainly comes from higher-than-expected revenue from property tax collections and utility services, combined with careful spending on contracted services and materials. The city’s financial position remains strong as it continues to deliver essential services to residents across all six wards, including waste collection, road maintenance, and transit operations.

“We are committed to transparent financial management, and this report shows we are on track to deliver the services you count on while keeping property taxes predictable for the long term.” — Robert Eng, City Manager.

You can view the full report and past summaries on the operating variance reports page. The report does not change your current property tax bill or utility rates. The city uses these surplus funds to strengthen its reserve accounts, ensuring we can handle unexpected costs and fund future infrastructure projects without raising taxes. Surpluses are automatically directed into the Major Renewal Reserve for replacing ageing transit and water equipment, and into the Park Renewal Reserve for trail resurfacing and playground replacement.
