Wrenford council begins public deliberations on 2026 budget

On September 25, 2025, Wrenford's administration officially presented the proposed 2026 operating and capital budgets to City Council. Over the coming weeks, Council will hold public deliberations to review the spending plan, weigh service priorities, and set the property tax rate for the upcoming year.

The draft budget outlines a total operating budget of $165.2 million and a capital budget of $42.5 million. These figures fund everyday city services, from garbage collection and road maintenance to fire protection and community programming. The capital budget covers major projects like the Corvid Creek Ravine Pathway Extension and ongoing infrastructure upgrades across the city.

"Getting 2026 right means balancing the needs of our growing neighbourhoods with the financial responsibility we owe to every resident," said City Manager Robert Eng. "We have worked closely with department heads to ensure our spending supports long-term sustainability while keeping property taxes predictable."

Council will hold a series of public meetings to discuss the budget line by line. Regular Council meetings take place on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 100 Mercer Street. Residents are welcome to attend in person or watch the livestream online.

During the deliberation period, the City is also running a Community Budget Survey to gather feedback on spending priorities. You can also drop by pop-up budget information tables at the Wrenford Public Library branches and community centres to speak with staff and ask questions.

Once Council votes on the final spending plan, the 2026 Tax Levy By-law will be passed. The City will mail interim property tax bills to residents in early 2026, with final bills following in the spring. Pre-authorized payment plans and instalment options will be available to help manage costs.
