As temperatures drop across Wrenford, the City is expanding its winter shelter response to keep residents safe during the coldest weeks ahead. Starting this week, we are adding 15 temporary beds at the Westbrook Community Arena, bringing the total capacity of our Safe Nights Wrenford programme to 55 beds.
The expansion runs through March 2026. Safe Nights Wrenford operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and provides daily meals, secure intake screening, and a partner agency referral network. The Westbrook overflow site will offer an additional 15 beds for people experiencing homelessness. Real-time capacity updates are available through our intake line at 519-555-0112. The City also activates warming centres and Extreme Weather Response shelters when temperatures fall below zero or when severe wind and rain make outdoor conditions dangerous. These spaces are run in partnership with local service providers and faith-based groups.
"We are committed to making sure every resident has a warm, safe place to stay when the mercury falls," says Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "This expansion ensures we can respond quickly to the needs of our community throughout the winter season."
If you see someone sleeping outside or struggling in the cold, please encourage them to call our intake line or dial 911 if there is an immediate health or safety risk. You can also help by keeping your sidewalks clear of snow and ice, dressing warmly, and checking on older neighbours.
