The Tamsin River Trail was packed with runners, walkers, and families on Saturday, May 17, 2025, as the annual Tamsin River Run welcomed a record 4,200 participants and over 6,000 spectators. The City of Wrenford is proud to host this beloved community tradition that celebrates our riverfront and active lifestyles.
The event covered the full 10-kilometre route along the Tamsin River Trail System, starting near Riverside Flats Park and finishing at Benchlands Lookout Park. Organizers reported that registration sold out three weeks before race day for the first time in the event's history. Local businesses along Mill Street and Water Street saw a boost in foot traffic, with many setting up pop-up stands to cheer on the runners and offer refreshments.
At the most recent Council meeting, members reviewed the event report and commended the Parks & Trails and Public Safety teams for their planning. Councillor Marcus Lindqvist, who sits on the committee that oversees community events, praised the turnout. "Seeing the whole community come together along the trail is a reminder of why we invest in our parks and trails," Lindqvist said.
City staff worked with the Wrenford Police Service and Wrenford Transit to manage crowd flow, close parallel streets for the day, and provide free shuttle buses between the Downtown Transit Terminal and the start and finish lines. You can watch the full meeting livestream on the City's YouTube channel to see how these decisions were made.
The Tamsin River Run is organized by a volunteer steering committee in partnership with the City of Wrenford. If you are interested in helping coordinate future runs, or if you simply want to enjoy the trail on a quiet morning, the Tamsin River Trail System remains open to the public year-round.
