Wrenford residents and community groups can now reserve a plot to start a community garden in Ambrel Lake Park this spring, with registration opening on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. through the online Neighbourhoods portal. The garden will welcome up to 20 new plots, each measuring three metres by three metres, giving you a dedicated space to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers.
The garden site sits on the north side of Ambrel Lake Park, near the boardwalk. City crews will prepare the soil and install shared compost bins and water spigots before the opening date. Each plot owner is responsible for their own beds, raised planters, and trellises. We ask that you follow the the community garden application page handbook for soil safety, pest management, and shared space rules. All gardeners must sign a three-year agreement to keep the site tidy and volunteer for at least four neighbourhood cleanups a year.
"Community gardens bring neighbours together while making the most of our green spaces," says Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We want to make sure the process is clear and that every plot is cared for, so we have updated our guidelines this year to help you get started on the right foot."
To apply, create or log into your Neighbourhoods account and fill out the the community garden application page form. You will need to list a plot preference, a contact name, and confirm you have read the handbook. We review applications on a first-come, first-served basis, and accepted gardeners will receive their plot assignment and access codes by email in early June. If your group wants to apply for tools, a shared tool shed, or seed funding, check out the the grant application page page for eligibility and deadlines.
Whether you have been gardening for years or just want to try your hand at growing tomatoes, this is a great chance to connect with the Ambrel Lake community. For more information about neighbourhood projects, park permits, and local events, visit the the Neighbourhoods section of our website.
