Starting May 20, 2025, the City of Wrenford will activate Stage 2 watering restrictions across the city. This change comes in response to warmer temperatures, lower rainfall, and higher-than-average water demand this spring.
Under Stage 2 rules, lawn watering is prohibited for all residential and non-residential properties. You can still water trees, shrubs, and flowers any day of the week using a hand-held hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle, a drip system, or a manual or automatic sprinkler. Vegetable gardens may be watered any time.
Residential watering is now limited to specific days and times:
- Even-numbered addresses: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
- Odd-numbered addresses: Wednesdays and Fridays, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
If you use an automated irrigation timer, it must be set to run between 5:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on your assigned days. Properties with a Smart Irrigation Certification can continue watering during the standard timer window if their system uses weather or soil moisture sensors and has been verified to reduce water use by at least 25 per cent annually.
"We are asking everyone to adjust their watering habits now so we have enough pressure and supply for the peak summer months," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "Following the schedule is the simplest way to keep our system running smoothly for everyone."
Residents can check their permitted watering days using the 311 mobile app or by calling 311 inside city limits. If you see a violation, you can report it online or by calling 311. Enforcement staff will issue warnings for first-time offences, but repeated violations can lead to fines under the Water and Wastewater By-law 2017-090.
Stage 2 restrictions will remain in place until the City announces a change. If conditions worsen, the City may move to Stage 3, which limits outdoor watering to only hand-held hoses or drip irrigation on a single assigned day per week.
