Motorists and pedestrians are advised of traffic disruptions and temporary snow clearing route shifts this Monday for the annual Remembrance Day memorial service.
On Monday, November 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., snow clearing operations will be paused on Tamsin Street between Mercer Street and Water Street. This pause allows for the safe setup of stages, seating, and memorials in preparation for the service at Centennial Gardens and the Cenotaph.
During this window, the usual snow clearing routes in the Downtown and Riverside Flats neighbourhoods will be shifted. Salt trucks and plows will divert to Benchlands Drive and Ambrel Lake Road until the service concludes at 12:00 p.m. Once the ceremony ends and the area is cleared, crews will return to their normal routes to finish the day's work.
"Road safety and public safety are our top priorities," says James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "We are adjusting our winter service timing to keep drivers and pedestrians safe while the community gathers to honour those who served."
Motorists should expect slower traffic and follow all detour signs and temporary closures. Pedestrians should use marked crosswalks and obey traffic signals. Please slow down when approaching the downtown core.
Snow clearing will resume on the affected downtown streets at 12:30 p.m. If you have questions about winter service routes or need to request a change, you can find full details on the Roads & Winter Maintenance page or contact us at 519-555-0100.
