Snow clearing operations resume with priority route strategy

City of Wrenford crews are back on the streets clearing snow after two days of steady snowfall across the region. Starting today, crews will work through the overnight parking ban window to clear main roads and secondary arterials, with residential neighbourhoods to follow as the snowpack builds.

The City has updated its winter service approach to focus on a three-tier priority route strategy. Main roads, including arterial routes like Benchlands Drive and Northgate Boulevard, will be cleared as soon as the snow reaches five centimetres. Secondary roads and collector streets will follow once the accumulation hits eight centimetres. Residential streets are serviced at the same eight-centimetre threshold, ensuring that crews can prioritize high-traffic corridors and emergency response routes first.

“Our goal is to keep the most heavily used roads open and safe for commuters, transit, and emergency vehicles,” said City Manager Robert Eng. “Just as residents shovel their sidewalks after every storm, our crews are circling back to re-plow priority corridors and treat steep intersections and bridge approaches with sand and salt.”

An overnight parking ban is in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily on all main and secondary roads while plowing is scheduled. You are asked to move your vehicles to make room for heavy equipment. Vehicles left on the street during plowing hours will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097.

Crews are also clearing snow from sidewalks in school zones, near transit terminals, and along high-traffic corridors like the Tamsin River Trail. Wrenford Transit routes will resume normal service as roads are cleared. You can report missed plowing or icy spots through the Service Wrenford portal or by calling 311.

The City expects more snow later this week, but crews are ready to maintain safe travel conditions.
