Starting today, April 1, 2025, local businesses can submit their requests to operate outdoor seating on the public right-of-way. The City of Wrenford is now accepting sidewalk patio permit applications for the upcoming summer season.
The summer patio season runs from May 1 to October 31. This year, the City is continuing its simplified application process to help businesses get set up quickly. The standard annual permit fee is $250.00. If a business renews its permit late, a $50.00 administrative fee will apply. You can submit your request online or pick up a copy of the application package at the Service Wrenford counter in City Hall.
The City’s Engineering and Roads teams will review each request within 10 business days. Once approved, your permit will be valid for the full season. Applicants must ensure their patio layout meets all accessibility and safety standards. This includes keeping a clear path for pedestrians, using non-slip surfaces, and making sure furniture does not block street signs, driveways, or bus stops. The Roads & Winter Maintenance team will also check that your design fits within the public right-of-way.
"Summer patios are a vital part of our downtown and neighbourhood streets," said Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We want to make sure local businesses have clear, straightforward ways to expand their seating areas safely while keeping sidewalks open for everyone."
Businesses planning to serve alcohol on their patio must also confirm that their provincial liquor licence covers outdoor areas. If you have questions about the application process or need help with your patio layout, contact the Planning and Development team at [email protected] or call 519-555-0100.
