Seniors fire safety workshop returns to Fallsview Arts Centre

The City of Wrenford is bringing back its popular Seniors Fire Safety Workshop. The free, hands-on session will be held on March 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fallsview Arts Centre, 50 Fallsview Road, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1B7. The workshop is designed specifically for older adults and their caregivers to learn how to prevent house fires and prepare for emergencies.

You will tour a mock-up of a living room and bedroom to spot common hazards like overloaded power strips, cluttered exits, and space heaters placed too close to curtains. Fire Rescue instructors will show you how to test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and how to draw a simple escape plan for your home. We will also cover what to do if a fire starts and when to call 911.

"We want every older adult to feel confident about staying safe at home," says Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "This hands-on workshop gives you practical tools to check your alarms and plan your escape before the fire season starts."

Registration is required because space is limited to 25 participants. Call Fire Station 1 at 519-555-0115 or visit our Seniors page to sign up. The workshop is free, and light refreshments will be provided. If you need a ride to the venue, call Wrenford Access at 519-555-0114 to book a specialized transit ticket.

Fire prevention is a year-round priority for the City. If you would like a free home safety check from a Fire Rescue officer, you can request one through our Seniors fire safety page. For more information on keeping your home secure, visit our Fire Rescue page.
