Outdoor skating rinks open October 18 at select locations

The City of Wrenford is opening its first outdoor skating rinks for the season on October 18. Residents can lace up their skates at four locations across the city as soon as the holiday weekend begins.

The opening rinks are located at Riverside Flats Park, Centennial Gardens, Benchlands Lookout Park, and Ambrel Lake Park. We will open additional rinks in neighbourhoods across Wrenford as temperatures drop and ice conditions improve. You can track every site and its status on our Outdoor skating rink locations page.

Outdoor rinks depend entirely on the weather. We flood the surfaces gradually to build a safe base, so some rinks may need a few extra days of cold nights before they are ready for the public. We ask that you stay off all natural ice, including storm ponds and frozen sections of the Tamsin River, until City crews have confirmed the ice is thick enough and safe to skate on.

"Outdoor skating is a beloved winter tradition in Wrenford," says Fiona Gallagher, GM Community Services. "We want everyone to have a safe and fun time on the ice, so we will open rinks gradually as the weather cooperates. Please check our website for updates before you head out."

Once the ice is ready, public skating is free at all City-maintained outdoor rinks. If you need a place to store your gear or want to book a rink for a special event, you can find rental details and hours on the same location page. For more ways to enjoy the season, visit our Programs section or check the News & Events calendar for seasonal activities and registration dates.

Keep an eye on the forecast. We will post updates as soon as more rinks are ready to skate.
