Old Mill Museum & Archives exterior restoration begins

Crews will begin exterior restoration work on the Old Mill Museum & Archives on June 23, 2025. The project targets the 1834 grist mill at 12 Mill Street in the Old Mill neighbourhood, focusing on masonry repairs, roof maintenance, and weatherproofing the historic structure. Work is expected to continue through October.

The Old Mill is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Wrenford and a key part of our local history. The exterior restoration will protect the foundation and stonework while keeping the building open for visitors. The museum and archives reading room will remain open during normal hours, with staff managing foot traffic around the scaffolding and work zones.

Construction vehicles and equipment will be staged along Mill Street. Residents should expect temporary lane closures between Tamsin Street and Water Street during weekday business hours. Drivers and cyclists are asked to follow posted detours and watch for pedestrians. The City's Roads & Winter Maintenance team will coordinate with the contractor to minimize delays and keep streets clear where possible. If you notice damage to the road surface after construction vehicles pass through, please use the Report a pothole tool to let us know.

"We are proud to invest in the long-term care of the Old Mill," says City Manager Robert Eng. "Restoring the exterior now means we can keep this piece of Wrenford's history standing strong for the next century."

The City is working with the Heritage & Archives Coordinator, Gwen Lachance, to ensure all preservation standards are met. Temporary noise from drilling and masonry work may be heard near the site from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Residents living nearby are asked to report any excessive dust or debris using the online service request form.
