Northgate Drop-off Depot opens for seasonal hazardous waste

The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce that the Northgate Drop-off Depot at 1010 Northgate Boulevard is now open for the seasonal household hazardous waste collection program. The depot is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through the end of the season. The City also operates a drop-off depot at East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, 3500 Concession 4 Road.

You can bring paints, solvents, automotive fluids, batteries, pesticides, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs, and thermometers to either location. The program ensures that these materials never end up in the regular garbage or recycling streams, where they can leak into the soil or contaminate water supplies.

"We want to make sure you have a safe, convenient way to dispose of household chemicals and other special materials," said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Keeping these items out of the regular waste stream protects our water, soil, and landfill space."

To use the service, follow these simple steps:

  • Bring items in your original containers whenever possible.
  • Keep all liquids upright during transport and secure them so they cannot tip over.
  • Never mix different chemicals together.
  • Place fragile items like fluorescent bulbs and thermometers in a sturdy box.
  • Propane tanks must be empty and have the valve removed.

The service is free for you. If you have questions about accepted items or need help packing your materials, contact the Waste Programs team at the City.
